As most of you know, the 1993 NCAA Convention approved the establishment of the Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse to certify the completion of freshman academic requirements for student athletes competing at Division 1 or 2 levels.
The Clearinghouse, located in Iowa City, Iowa, began certifying athletes who will be freshmen in the 1994-95 academic year this past August. The purpose of the Clearinghouse is to ensure that all prospective athletes' core courses and transcripts are reviewed using a standardized formula, as opposed to each individual school establishing its own criteria for evaluation.
STEP 1
See your guidance counselor or coach to obtain information about the Clearinghouse and to pick up a student release form.
STEP 2
Fill out the form completely and send in the top (white) copy to the Clearinghouse. The fee is $18.00. Give both the yellow and pink forms to your guidance counselor.
STEP 3
Have SAT and/or ACT test scores sent directly to the Clearinghouse. Mark code 9999 as one of your choices in the section of the exam with college and scholarship codes.
The above process should begin by the end of the junior year or early senior year. For more information call the Athletic Office at 789-4512.
