Donald Batchelder has served as
Principal Trumpet of the Westfield Symphony Orchestra since its inception in 1983. He is also currently a member of the New Jersey Chamber Music Society and Principal Trumpet of the Stamford (CT) Symphony. Mr. Batchelder has served as principal trumpet in orchestras in Toluca, Mexico and Seoul, Korea, and has performed the Hummel Concerto on Korean National TV. Additionally, he frequently performs with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, and the American Symphony Orchestra.
He has earned a reputation as a distinguished soloist in concerto and recital performances throughout the New York metropolitan area and has toured Europe as a soloist with the East Swiss Orchestra.
Mr. Batchelder received Bachelors and Masters degrees from The Juilliard School. He has performed on WNYC and WQXR radio in New York, and has recorded for the EMI/Angel, Koch, ASV, and CRI labels.
Don met his wife Lisa (a WSO violinist) at the first WSO rehearsal in 1983. They live in West Orange with their two sons.
