Our parish will remember this day at the 9:00 AM Mass which will be a Mass of Remembrance for all those taken so violently from us. The Rosary will be recited after Mass. All are invited to pray together as a parish on this infamous day. “When does the RCIA end?” Often people ask that question when they realize that we continue to meet after Easter. Because the neophytes and newly received begin to participate in the Sunday liturgy as full members of the community, they “disappear” into the crowd. In fact, they are there every Sunday and when possible they take their usual places until Pentecost. But in fact the RCIA really introduces them into the way all Christians – and all Catholics – are called to follow for the rest of their lives. How? Through daily prayer and reflection, involvement in the life of their local social community as a witness to the way of Christ, involvement in their local faith community through small faith-sharing groups. Through service, continuing education and faith-growth in dialogue with life-experience and with the Holy Spirit who continues to teach us individually how to live the life of discipleship. What is the difference? The RCIA provides a formal pattern for this. But each of us needs to find what helps us – discern what we need at this time in our lives and make use of all the resources at our fingertips. Fortunately, St. Helen’s community offers a smorgasbord of options! Here, each of us can pick what we need or want! |

Without a doubt, abortion is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can have. Both before and after the abortion, feelings of fear, anxiety, guilt, panic and pressure are common not only for the woman who undergoes the abortion, but also for the father of the unborn child, the grandparents, even medical personnel. For Catholics, the pain of abortion is intensified by of a sense of alienation from God and Church. If you are in this position, we want you to know that your Church understands and cares. We are a loving and forgiving Church, reaching out to you in compassion and concern. Above all, we want to help you through the healing process. The Archdiocese of Newark invites you to participate in Project Rachel, a post abortion reconciliation program. Through Project Rachel, some 50 priests have received special training to minister the Sacrament of Reconciliation to people who have been involved in an abortion. Project Rachel, like the Sacrament, is a sensitive, private and confidential experience. If you wish, you can be put in touch with a priest outside your home community. Your meeting with the priest will focus on preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Generally, the process includes counseling, prayer and scripture. To initiate your participation in Project Rachel, we ask you to contact the Respect Life Office, 1805 Penbrook Terrace, Linden, NJ 07036 or by calling (732) 388-8211. In addition to Project Rachel, the Church offers Rachel’s Vineyard Retreats which are a weekend retreat of spiritual healing for women or men who are suffering from an abortion. The next retreat is scheduled for September 20 - 22nd. Retreats outside our area are also available. |
