RCIA News
Jesus went beyond the boundaries of his ministry to heal the daughter of a woman who was not a member of the Chosen People. Apparently, her faith and humility were irresistible and so he responded to her plea. Today, God speaks to the hearts of all people no matter what their faith or language to invite them to the fuller life Jesus promised.

If we want to further God’s kingdom, we need to listen for the challenging and encouraging voice that calls us to grow in faith, to respond to the needs of others, to realize that our limits are not God, our ways are not God’s, our vision is more limited than God’s. As our summer moves toward fall, we might want to ask what new opportunities for growing in faith await us in the weeks and months ahead, what opportunities for service are open to us to continue Jesus’ mission to teach, heal, console and challenge.

Newly Separated and Divorced
We are starting a group for newly separated or divorced people which will meet at Saint Helen's on Monday, September 9, at 7:30 in the Annex.  The group will be led by Eileen Cumiskey and Father Don McLaughlin.  We will meet until approximately October 28th.  We have room for 10 people and the diocese will also be sending people here.  Call Father Don at (908) 232-1214, x12, to register.

Recent additions to our New Book shelf include "Three Gospels" by Price, "I Like Being Married" by Leach/Borchard, "Good Harbor" by Diamant and "The Wisdom of the Desert" by Merton.
Building for the House of God
22  In the liturgical assembly, Christ’s presence is realized in all the baptized who gather in his name, in the word of God proclaimed in the assembly, in the person of the priest through whom Christ offers himself to the Father and gathers the assembly, in the sacramental celebrations, and especially in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood.  In building a house for the Church that is also the house of God on earth, all the expressions of Christ’s presence have prominence of place that reflects their proper nature.  Among these, the eucharistic species is accorded supreme prominence.  From the very beginning of the planning and design process, parishes will want to reflect upon the relationship of the altar, the ambo, the tabernacle, the chair of the priest celebrant, and the space for congregation.

24  Gestures, language and actions are the physical, visible, and public expression by which human beings understand and manifest their inner life.  Since human beings on this earth are always made of flesh and blood, they not only will and think, but also speak and sing, move and celebrate.  These human actions as well as physical objects are also the signs by which Christians express and deepen their relationship to God.

25  Jesus himself used physical signs to manifest his union with the Father and to reveal his mission to the world.  Jesus was baptized in the waters of the Jordan River, he fed the multitudes with bread, healed the sick with his touch, and forgave sinners.  He was anointed with oil, he shared a Passover meal with his disciples, and he surrendered hi body to death on the Cross.  Christ, the incarnate one, used material signs to show to humanity the invisible God.
