#13 - Caring for Your Home and Household
 
 
 
 
Note to Adults:
  Learning what is required to keep a home neat and clean is important for a first grader. Part of the goal of this big idea is to help your Tiger Cub realize that if everyone does his part to keep the home clean, neat, and fixed up, it will be a happier place in which to live. In addition, some of the activities in this big idea are designed to give your Tiger Cub a greater appreciation of all things that others do to keep the home in good shape. Lastly, an objective of this big idea is to help your Tiger Cub learn to follow directions.
 
 
  Activity Suggestions for Families:
  1. Organize a family housekeeping schedule, with everyone taking on a job.
 
  2. Clean up the attic, basement, closet, or yard. Make it a family party.
 
  3. Discuss the family budget and finances.
 
  4. Discuss the benefits of personal grooming--clean clothes, shoes shined, hair combed, fingernails cleaned, etc.
 
  5. Visit the oldest house in your community.
 
  6. Discuss the different kinds of housing people have lived in at one time or another through the ages.
 
 
  Activity Suggestions for the Tiger Cub Den:
  1. Make holiday decorations.
 
  2. Hold a combined garage sale and use the profits for a den outing.
 
  3. Organize an aluminum can, glass, and paper recycling program.
 
  4. Volunteer to clean up a city or state park, then hold a den picnic in that park.
 
  5. Invite someone from the zoo or from the high school biology department to give a talk on the grooming and housekeeping habits of animals.
 
  6. Plan a program or project of your own.
