DESCRIPTIONS OF THE CATECHETICAL SESSIONS OFFERED FOR THE 1999-2000 CATECHETICAL YEAR

Holy Trinity Parish recognizes the varied schedules and responsibilities families have during the school year. We recognize the classroom based catechetical sessions, once a week, may not be the best tool for your child’s faith formation. Because of this, our parish offers families different options for catechesis and religious instruction. The following options are what will be available to any family in Holy Trinity parish for the 1999-2000 catechetical year.

SUMMER PROGRAM for GRADES 1-6

DATES: JULY 12-JULY 22, 1999 TIME: 9am-1pm Monday thru Thursday

In addition to these two weeks, families in this program would come together 4x during the school year, probably on a Sunday Morning after the 9am Mass. These sessions last about an hour and a half. The dates and times for these sessions will be announced as soon as possible. We can make no definitive statement until registrations are in and numbers are verified.

Where: Holy Trinity Interparochial School Cost: $100 for 1 child $200 for 2 or more

This replaces the weekly session of catechesis that takes place from Sept. thru May

OPTION 2:

FAMILY INTERGENERATIONAL HOME BASED PROGRAM

For: children in grades 1-6 From Sept. to May

God is Calling Program: Together Time for Families Theme: Year 2: Jesus

Is a home based religious education/faith formation process designed for families to use in their homes, with several parish based meetings throughout the year. The program offers catechesis through weekly family sessions done in the quiet of your home with you and your child. In addition to your weekly sessions as a family, you will join other families in this process several times during the year for parish based sessions.

Times for these sessions will be announced at a later date.

OPTION 3:

Traditional weekly catechesis once a week at the parish.

This option contains many options within it. Looking at the registration form, you will see that we are offering catechetical sessions at a variety of times and days. Our goal is:

a) keep the number of children in a group at a minimum. This allows for the opportunity to form a small based community.

b) respect family schedules and commitments while not sacrificing the quality of faith formation

c) move the sessions away from the classroom structure to a more intimate and reflective atmosphere

Please note: options will be offered for Grades 6-7-8 as well. They will still be scheduled in the evenings.

Please read the registration form carefully and thoughtfully. In choosing a day and time ( if you decide on the traditional weekly model) please note that you have committed your child to that day and time for the year. It will be administratively impossible as well as detrimental to the group, to change children from one group or another in order to fit in other extra-curricular activities.

PARISH CATECHETICAL PROGRAM: VARIETY OF MODELS

The summer program dates: July 12 - 22 cost: $100 per child #200 for 2 or more

We will accept a maximum of 100 children grades 1-6

How Do I choose

The temptation is often to choose the easiest and most convenient, giving little thought to what might be the most effective and growth filled for myself and my family. So how do I choose? What criteria should I use? Below are some questions to consider. Upon your response to these questions, you will probably be able to make the best decision for you and your children:

Which of these options will provide the best opportunity for me and my child to grow in our relationship with God?

Which option will provide the best opportunity for my child to grow in the knowledge and practice and his/her faith?

Which option will provide the best opportunity for my child to develop a strong sense of compassion, justice, and service?

Which option will provide my child with the best opportunity to develop a strong prayer life?

I have also listed the three models side by side to help you make a decision:

SUMMER SESSION

allows for a greater concentration of time

gives an opportunity to experience ritual

more time to experience a variety of prayer forms

time to participate in the Liturgy of the Word

opportunity to evangelize parents and children

children come at optimum times

catechesis is not sandwiched in between other activities

this process is in line with Church’s direction for catechesis

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING

would run // with Trinicamp

alleviate space problems

help family schedules

FAMILY INTERGENERATIONAL MODEL

Run from Sept. thru May

Done at home as a family. Family chooses the time and space most acceptable to them

newer model, in line with the direction of catechesis in the Church

summer and family models would commit to coming together in the parish at various times during the year

family gatherings would follow the liturgical cycle of the church year.

Families would have the opportunity to get involved in the service component of the catechetical program

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING

alleviate space problems

help family schedules

TRADITIONAL WEEKLY MODEL

offered to families who feel more comfortable with weekly catechetical sessions in the parish. A variety of times and days are offered here as well to respect the schedules of families.
