WESTFIELD -- Junior Girl Scout Troop 808 of the Westfield Community of the Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council is conducting a book drive as part of their Bronze Award requirements. The 6th grade girls will collect gently used children’s books during March and donate them to the children of King’s Daughters Day School in Plainfield. Donation boxes will be placed in several locations around town, including schools and churches, in an effort to reach the troop’s goal of collecting 1,000 books. In addition to the book drive, troop members have worked with King’s Daughters Day School on other programs related to achieving their Bronze Award. They made rainy day boxes for children in the after-school program, complete with recycled arts and crafts supplies from their own collections; they created and performed a puppet show for the pre-schoolers; they baked treats for the school’s winter concert, and they read picture books to the toddlers. Troop 808 will collect books through April 4. If you would like to donate gently used books (board books, picture books, early readers, young adult, poetry, and chapter books – to age 13), please email oneillynch@yahoo.com.
