Scouts is a lot of things but it's not free.

Girl Scouts provides girls with a nurturing environment that focuses on personal achievements and a strong girl-adult partnership. Opportunities are designed to help girls develop life skills, leadership abilities and values. Trained professionals and volunteers, with measurable results, facilitate well-planned program opportunities. Through exposure to the Girl Scout program, girls report feeling a stronger connection to their community and a commitment to community service. Girl Scouts is for every girl, everywhere. It is an organization that provides quality program opportunities to all girls regardless of race, religion or financial ability. While Girl Scouts provides girls with quality programming at a low cost, it does not come without costs. Providing Girl Scouting to the nearly 8000 girls and 3000 adults of Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council requires a group of committed people who give generously of their time and money. The children are our future and those individuals who support our program are making a difference. To meet our yearly budget of $1.4 million our income comes from the following sources:

As a private non-profit organization it is necessary for us to continually seek funding from individuals, foundations, businesses, United Ways through either direct or indirect giving. The average cost to provide Girl Scouting is $186 per girl per year. All the money we raise stays right in our Council to provide program for our girls. The 21% of our income that is direct support includes the following campaigns.

These are individuals or small organizations that have been volunteers, alumnae, parents, are indirectly involved or charitable individuals that are committed to helping maintain and further Girl Scouting through direct giving. If you wish to support us directly go to our form >>>

Parents are given an opportunity to support the girls of Washington Rock. These contributions help pay for recruitment and training of adult members for all positions, programs and activities, financial aid, one-on-one staff support and program center maintenance.

Check upcoming events on this website for activities that are planned by our volunteer committee to be enjoyable, as well as earn money for our programs. Suggestions and help are always welcome in this area if you are interested.

Every year requests for funding are submitted by the Council to various local/area foundations and government agencies for specific programs and projects. We are always searching for additional charitable entities that oversee such funding to enhance our organization and would welcome information and inquiries for further information on our program needs.

Girl and Adult Financial Aid is a program specifically targeted to raising money to assist girls and adults who cannot afford to pay the full cost of our camp and other Council sponsored programs. Our other giving also supports this need, but it for those individuals who wish to make it their special focus.

Washington Rock is directly supported by the Eastern Union County, Cranford, Westfield, South Plainfield, Plainfield/N.Plainfield/Fanwood/Scotch Plains, Summit, Berkeley Heights and Somerset County United Ways. Our parents and friends are encouraged to participate in these campaigns where they are available.

Businesses, individuals, governments donate services and products to Washington Rock. These can include equipment, supplies and tickets to special events.

To insure a sound program for future generations, the Council has established an opportunity for those individuals who are looking at retirement income needs and estate planning. We can offer attractive ideas to benefit the individual and Washington Rock. These include:

  • Make a major gift of money, securities, personal property or real estate to our Endowment Fund.
  • Include Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council in a charitable trust, gift annuity or pooled income fund.
  • Name Washington Rock as owner and/or beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy.
  • Include Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council in your will, directing a portion of your assets or estate’s residuary balance to our Endowment Fund.

E-Giving gives donors an opportunity to use the convenience of the internet to make a donation to the council. This program is referred to as the online Commit To A Girl fundraiser.
