Making a Difference Through Service
A
Council Patch Program for all levels
All
levels must complete number one + a set number of requirements as follows:
Daisy
Girl Scouts must complete 2 requirements, plus number 1.
Brownie Girl Scouts must complete 3 requirements, plus number 1.
Junior Girl Scouts must complete 4 requirements, plus number 1.
Cadette Girl Scouts must complete 6 requirements, plus number 1.
Senior Girl Scouts must complete 8 requirements, plus number 1.
Requirements:
1.
Participate in a Service Day organized by a Girl Scout Troop/Group,
Service Unit, and/or Council. Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors may want to
consider organizing a Service Day yourself if one is not already scheduled.
2.
Research 3 organizations that are service-oriented (i.e. Girl Scouts,
YMCA, American Red Cross) How did they start and by whom? How have they
changed over the years? Is their mission still the same today as it was when
they started? Share your information with others in your troop/group.
3.
Set up and run or help out at a food or clothing drive through your
school or community.
4.
Volunteer at a local nursing home.
5.
Research a major organization that helps children (i.e. The Make A
Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House). If possible, do something to
support the organization. For example, you could make and send “thinking of
you” cards to be given to children.
6.
Research Habitat for Humanity. If there’s a project going on in your
area, volunteer to help out.
7.
Send “thinking of you” cards to a local nursing home or local
children’s hospital. It will be certain to brighten the day of a resident.
8.
Participate in a community sponsored project (i.e. park clean-up).
9.
Participate and/or volunteer in a benefit walk/run.
10.
Find out what service organizations exits in your community. What do
they do in the community? What part of the community do they provide service
to (the elderly, children, etc.)? Put together a directory of these
organizations that could be given to new residents in the community.
11.
How are most service organizations funded? Find out about grants and
other forms of funding for service organizations.
12.
What are some things you can do, on a regular basis, that are free,
but would provide a service to your community (i.e. pick up litter). Pick
one of your ideas and commit to doing it for a month.
