You can receive extra credit by filling out an evaluation form.  Click on the picture below to view a printable evaluation form, or pick up an evaluation form from your teacher.

= evaluation form

You can obtain extra credit by completing one of the two options below:

  1. Visit at least three different websites. Complete an evaluation form for two of the sites you liked best.
    -OR-

  2. Some websites are very large and are subdivided into different areas.  An example of this is Brainpop. At a site like Brainpop, visit three different topic sites, or view three different movies.  Complete an evaluation form for two areas  within Brainpop. Ask your teacher if you have any questions.

What's in a solution - easy to understand info.

Water vs. Salt water -interactive site - compares the effect of sunlight on water vs. saltwater in an experiment format - need to have shockwave.

Salt crystals dissolving in water - animation - offers several movies - click on the link for salt crystal dissolving - be patient may take a moment or two to load animation.

Some things dissolved, some don't - includes experiments you can do at home and also a link to 17 more links

What's in a solution - easy to understand info

BrainPop - Water - as usual a great site but remember you have limit on the number of times you can watch a movie per day.

Water dissolving salt - color graphic only - no animation but still very good.

Solubility - virtual experiment Sodium Chloride vs. Silver Chloride - which is soluble vs. insoluble in water. 3 movies each take a bit to load but are good.

Water Links and water cycle - why is ocean salty.

Dissolving an ionic compound - for PC only - animated movie.

Mixtures - Homogeneous and Heterogeneous:

BiteSize Separating Mixtures and Techniques - interactive and quiz.

Homogeneous Mixtures - summary of properties - one slide frame.

Classification of matter - includes good graphics to show comparison.

Mixtures and homogeneous mixtures - good graphics along with photos and molecular sketches.

Properties of Matter - slide show with good info and photos reviewing Matter, States of Matter, Mixtures, Solutions.

Differences between heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures - good photos and graphics as will as interactive links showing separation techniques.

Mixtures - compares homogeneous to heterogeneous and review solute and solvent - includes a short quicktime movie.

Identifying Mixtures - interactive - game format - very good - compare different types of solutions by examples and are also able to view it at the molecular level.

Quiz Review Activities:

Mixtures - review and interactive quiz -good way to review with immediate feedback.

Types of solutions - solid, liquid, gas and a 3 question quiz.

Science Quizzes - scroll down to the section on mixtures and click on links appropriate to this chapter -provides feedback. (1/25/03)

Interactive Quiz reviewing elements, compounds, mixtures with feedback.

Matching game - for solutions, suspensions, colloids - interactive - good way to review.

Food Review - using food to help with your understanding of solutions, suspensions, colloids- good site

Solutions study guide - includes sample test questions (fill in the blank, matching, essay)

1/24/02:
Quiz on mixtures (solutions, suspensions, colloids) interactive & multiple choice format - will get graded for you on-line.

Saturated, Unsaturated, Supersaturated:
Saturated Solutions - graphics

Solutions - saturated, unsaturated, ....suspensions, colloids, etc. slide show format with great graphics and photos - check it out.

Saturated Solutions - good details - simple enough to understand with photos and quiz - with a link to supersaturated solutions.

Crystal growing recipes - before starting anything get permission from parent and be aware of all safety rules and procedures.

Make your own geode (crystal) eggs - looks like fun!

Solutions, Colloids, Suspensions:
Solutions, suspensions, colloids - interactive and with good photos and information.

Colloids - interactive and with good photos and information.

Solutions, Colloids, Suspensions - good text information.

1/25/03:
Types of Solutions:
Soluble vs. Insoluble - slide show with photographs - photos great; slideshow short and simple but very good (This is a timed sequence of slides. Read each slide carefully and slowly. After a while, a green button will appear. Clicking on this button will advance the play. The slide show is finished when you see "the end".)

Solutions and Concentrations - slide show with photographs - photos great; slideshow short and simple but very good (This is a timed sequence of slides. Read each slide carefully and slowly. After a
while, a green button will appear. Clicking on this button will advance the play. The slide show is finished when you see "the end".)

Solubility:

Solubility Curve/Graph - same as the one in the textbook, includes information and "1" interactive quiz question.

Factors Effecting Solubility - text information, no graphics but good information.

Solubility Limits - includes a link to saturation - good info, simple to understand, no graphics.

Solubility - no graphics but good info, gives the basics plus additional information, most of which is easy enough to understand.

Gas Solubility for beginners - video with audio - "student" presentation - good information but it's clarity could be better for better viewing - reviews soluble, insoluble, dissolving.

Solubility of "Peeps" - lab experiment format comparing floating peeps in water and 5 other liquids - worth a peep, pun intended!

Solubility of a Gas - experiment with soda (warm vs. cold).

Solutions and Solubility - good info and graphics - beginning section is good but as you scroll down the page it becomes more advanced; beginning section is still worth a look.

1/21/03:
Solubility graphic of salt and water.

Finding the Solubility of Salt in water - slide show with photographs - photos great; slideshow short and simple but very good (This is a timed sequence of slides. Read each slide carefully and slowly. After a
while, a green button will appear. Clicking on this button will advance the play. The slide show is finished when you see "the end".)

Solubility Graph - does a great job of explaining how to interpret the data.
