All Along A River - interactive study of a river and its parts - good graphics. Engage on a trail along a river and find out more about the physical processes of rivers and also rivers of the world. A one-stop resource center for rivers.

Let's Take a Dip! Interactive virtual creek dip -Creeks have flowing water and currents. Fast-moving streams are found in areas with mountains or hills. Slow moving streams are found in flatter areas, such as coastal plains. Creeks are generally smaller than rivers. DIRECTIONS: To take your first dip, position your mouse pointer over the number 1 button on the left side of the screen. Then click ONCE with your left mouse button. Be patient, your catch will appear on the blue side of the screen. Remember to record your catch on the datasheet. Repeat ten times by clicking buttons 1 through 10 (once each) and then move on to the next habitat by clicking on the 'Next Area' words under the habitat picture. Note: you may catch the same critter more than one time. Be sure to tally it every time you catch it. (Also look for this site when studying ch 7 & 8.)

Watershed Game - There are two levels in this game: Novice and Intermediate. The novice level is for third and fourth graders, or anyone who isn't sure what a watershed is. You don't have to start with the novice level, but it'll give you a good introduction to the ideas in the intermediate level. And you can jump into the intermediate level anytime you like—just click on one of the pictures on the left to start making decisions about your watershed. In the intermediate level, you'll be in charge of your watershed, making decisions about recreation, agriculture, transportation, and many more things. Can you make the right choices to ensure a healthy watershed?

The Metropolitan Watershed of NJ - Management Area 7 Project - this is the watershed that manages Westfield - includes good photos of local areas and much more.

Rock types: The simulation showed filling rates for wells drilled into sandstone, shale, and limestone. Click each rock to see a photograph of that type of rock. Click again to see a visualization of water moving through the microscopic structure of the rock. Note that the scale of the microscopic images is not constant.

Porosity and Permeability: Two separate characteristics of rocks control how effective they are as aquifers.

Well Filling simulation This simulation will show filling rates for a well dug into three different rock types. Follow the instructions on the left to see the well-filling times for each rock type, then calculate the flow rates using the hint provided below.
