MARIE-DANIELLE MERCIER, organist
Born in Le Mans,
France, Marie-Danielle Mercier received her early musical training in her
native city at the Conservatoire Municipal de Musique et d'Art Dramatique,
of which Pierre Cochereau was then Director. After being awarded
prizes in Piano, Organ, Harmony and Chamber Music, in 1963 she entered
the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris where she won
prizes for Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue. In 1967 she was admitted
to the Organ Class under Rolande Falcinelli (who succeeded Marcel Dupre),
and in 1971 Mrs. Mercier was awarded First Prize in Organ and Improvisation.
Since then she has given concerts in France (Notre-Dame in Paris,
Rouen....) and in England. In 1974 she recorded the Second Symphony
by Marcel Dupre for the BBC.
In 1975, Marie-Daniele Mercier moved to Cranford, NJ, and was organist
at St. Michael's church for eight years where she used to perform in concert
with the orchestra and choir. She gave concerts in New York City
(St. Patrick's, St. Thomas, Coumbia University....) and in New Jersey,
and returned to France many times to perform for organ conventions
and concerts.
In 1983 she was asked to be the Director of Music and Organist at
the Church of St. Vincent de Paul in New Yok City. During her fifteen
years she performed works by French composers such as Marcel Dupre and
Roland Falcinelli. Now she is a freelance Organist.
