SCHOOL MENTORING

The Arbor Chamber Music Society

In 1998, as part of its mission to nurture
the next generation of musicians and listeners, The  Arbor Chamber Music
Society developed a Mentoring Program at Westfield High School.
In 1999 the program was extended to  both Westfield Middle Schools
.

This 2000-01 season, Arbor has brought  the program to Maplewood, to the Youth Orchestra of Essex County.

Through this program, Arbor’s artists take time to visit with the students for “informances” - informal performances and discussions - as well as coachings and lessons.  Students are exposed to a broad range of repertoire and get to hear dynamic performances by acclaimed artists right in their classrooms.

It is the Society's goal to help young people
along in their musical development  and to
engage them more deeply in the process of music-making so that they will be inspired to
continue to listen to and play music their
whole lives.
Together with the  students, the performers explore what it is that makes music interesting and beautiful, how it is structured, what they should listen for.
