About the Arbor Chamber Music Society
The Arbor Chamber Music Society was started in 1991 by a group of professional musicians under the leadership of Lenore Fishman Davis. Their goals have been to bring the highest artistic standards of chamber music performance to New Jersey's audiences, to educate audiences about the broad and inspiring chamber music repertoire and to nurture and develop the next generation of listeners and musicians. The Society has continued to present chamber music concerts throughout northern New Jersey. Begun in Summit, the Society now has two series which take place regularly at the Burgdorff Cultural Center in Maplewood, and in Westfield at the Prebyterian Church.
The Society has achieved considerable acclaim for its dynamic performances and enriching pre-concert discussions, and is known for bringing world-class artists into intimate concert halls and into schools.
In addition to its regular series concerts, the Society has given concerts at The Morris Museum, Blair Academy, Pingry School, Caldwell College, Schering-Plough headquarters in Madison, Elizabeth High School, Westfield High School, and in Summit at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, the Unitarian Church, Christ Church and at the Central Presbyterian Church. The Arbor Chamber Music Society is run through the expertise of a dedicated board of directors and volunteers, who manage all administration, operation and fund-raising efforts. Only the performing artists receive payment for their services. The Society's exceptional programming and artistic integrity have inspired the trust and support of The Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation, The Westfield Foundation, Chase Manhattan Bank, Schering-Plough, Hayward Industries, Lucent Technologies, and the NJ State Council on the Arts through grants administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs and the Essex County Cultural Affairs Office.
